Human
beings are interrelational beings. Human beings come in families,
tribes, and communities. It is easy for a person to feel alone in
a crowd. It is easy for a person to feel he or she is the only one
to have ever experienced something -- especially when it is not something
the wider community seems to confront often.
In
adoption (and emotional forms of adoption such as guardianship, kinship,
foster care, etc.), for the birth families, the adoptive families,
and for the kids, there is often this feeling of being "the only one".
The
group model at CFFC provides trained clinicians -- and, as much as
possible, a person in a leadership co-therapy role who has some of
the same experience as the group -- to work with people as they make
sense of, and normalize, their own life experience.
Birth Mother's Tea
Monday, May 12, 2008; 6pm to 8pm
Mother's Day can be a difficult holiday for those of the adoption triad. This is an evening for
birth mothers to gather, support, and share about personal experiences. It is CFFC's way of
acknowledging birth mothers.

How Does Your Family Garden Grow?
Thursday, June 26, 2008; 12:30-2:30pm at CFFC.
This group will provide an opportunity for children ages 5-7 touched by adoption and/ or foster care to
explore various types of families, the many ways they are constructed, and the importance of having their needs met within their family units. The metaphor of a garden will be used
to address these issues with the children through art and discussion.
Led by Melissa St. John, LMFT and Candice Beckner, Clinical Intern.
