EQUITY 101

Course Description  

Equity 101 is the foundational course for anyone looking to understand the fundamental concepts and definitions of equity.

Learning Objectives 

By the end of this training, learners will be able to: 

  • Recognize a set of terms, concepts, and definitions and develop a shared language for talking about equity  
  • Understand how these concepts are used in their own work and community 
  • Identify actionable ways to use the equity terms, concepts, and understandings in their work

EQUITY 102

Course Description

Building on the concepts introduced in Equity 101, Equity 102 is a two-part live-virtual training designed to provide attendees with a deep understanding and practical application of equity terms and concepts. 

Learning Objectives 

Through this training, attendees will 

  • Apply key equity terms and concepts to a variety of example scenarios 
  • Practice engaging in difficult conversations, increasing comfort and skill level 
  • Reflect on their own identities and how those identities influence and impact their work

Social Media Use in Child Welfare: Privacy, Protection, and Ethic in Engagement

Course Description

This is a half-day virtual instructor-led training offering focused on structuring social media usage to maintain privacy, both for the PCSA staff and for the families served.

Learning Objectives 

By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 

  • Explore social media as a tool for FSE efforts 
  • Examine professional boundaries and ethical considerations around confidentiality and privacy 
  • Identify the attributes of a professional social media profile

Unpacking the ‘No:’ Navigating Family Resistance

Course Description

This is a half-day virtual instructor-led that examines ambivalence and resistance from families impacted by child welfare.

Learning Objectives 

By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 

  • Understand the importance of establishing trust and identify strategies to do so 
  • Define ambivalence and resistance from relatives and youth involved in child welfare 
  • Examine how these can impact the willingness to be involved and the desired role of involvement

Engaging Fathers: Enhancing Family Connections

Course Description

This half-day virtual instructor-led training is centered around the engagement of non-custodial fathers and their paternal families.

Learning Objectives 

By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 

  • Recognize the current limitations of child welfare engagement with the broader paternal family network 
  • Acknowledge the importance of searching for and engaging with fathers and the paternal side of the family 
  • Describe additional engagement identification strategies for legal, social, and alleged fathers and their families

SEEK Training

Course Description

Search, Engage, Explore, and Kinnect (SEEK) - This one-day, in-person training experience introduces participants to our intense values-based family search and engagement (FSE) process. 

Learning Objectives 

By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 

  • Recognize how legislation supports keeping children connected to their family 
  • Explain how the core values of family search and engagement can be incorporated into practice 
  • Describe the difference between outcomes related to children with kinship caregivers versus those who grow up in foster care

SOGIE 101

Course Description  

Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) 101 offers a virtual, half day of foundational information about gender identity and sexual orientation and the influence of affirmative caregiving. 

Learning Objectives 

By the end of this training, learners will be able to: 

  • Differentiate between basic definitions for sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression 
  • Discuss the impact of bias, myths, and misinformation on developing youth 
  • Recognize the impact of rejection and acceptance by family and/or community on young people with diverse SOGIE.

SOGIE 102

Course Description

SOGIE 102 is an advanced course divided into two sessions, both of which are mandatory for full participation. 

Learning Objectives 

By the end of this experience, learners will be able to: 

  • Demonstrate proficiency around language, terms and definitions regarding servicing youth and families with diverse SOGIE.  
  • Develop the ability to recognize diverse SOGIE as a distinctive part of culture and diversity.   
  • Integrate knowledge and understanding that SOGIE is one part of one intersection within intersectionality; developing ways to implement this understanding in working with youth and families.
