Child Returns After Two-Year Separation

Success story

The situation

A school-age child came to Ohio from Georgia with his mom for what was to be a short trip. A crisis arose and due to system barriers, the child was brought into foster care. The young person was scared and worried about his mom and wanted to see his family back in Georgia.

The facilitation

The Kinnect to Family Specialist and the child welfare team knew that being in Georgia, their home, near so many family members was the best place for this child and worked relentlessly until a safe plan was secured. After completing seven Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) with Georgia, our KTF Specialist was able to support a family in getting the 8th ICPC approved.

The outcome

The child was reunited with family after two years apart. We are so grateful that the Kinnect to Family Specialist did not let the system barriers stop them, if they had, the young person may have grown up in foster care and we know that all children deserve the opportunity to grow up with a sense of belonging with their FAMILY!
